Blog about mobiliy to Bucharest by the German students - English version
Day 1: Our first day in Bucharest started with a meeting in the school Miguel de Cervantes, where we introduced ourselves and got to know all of the other participants from Romania, Spain, Norway and Italy. We then were blessed with a guided tour through the school, which was smaller than ours and even had security staff that stood at the entrances and had an eye on who entered and left. For lunch, we went through a park to the Hotel Capitol. Back at school, we participated in a music- workshop. Next, we visited Radio Romania and once again got a guided tour through the building, we were even allowed to watch as a live broadcast was aired. We finished our day with dinner in an old-town- restaurant with our guest families.

Day 2: Today, we started with a crafting- lesson. Divided into 4 mixed groups, we took on the task of making posters on the subject of sustainability. For lunch we once more went to the Hotel Capitol and stayed there for a solid 1 ½ hours. To get to the orphanage, we took the bus, which was filled to the top, for half an hour until we got to the outer Bucharest area. It was quite interesting to see how other residential areas looked. After a 5-minute walk, we arrived at the orphanage, where we delivered our gifts and listened to a song sung by the Romanians. The orphan girls then danced for us and we got a tour of the orphanage. After that, we took the bus back and headed straight to a laser tag arena, an event organized for all participating nations by the parents. It was definitely fun and contributed to team building. At about 9 pm we were driven home by car, as car is king in Bucharest. In conclusion, today was a very successful and inspiring day.

Day 3: We traveled far today: a 3-hour bus drive – one way! But that was necessary as the Bran Castle is located further in the inland than Bucharest. Our journey started at 6:15 a.m. as we had to avoid the rush hour. After having had a break for half an hour, we arrived at a bear sanctuary, where we got a guided tour, learned about the bears’ stories and even saw some wolves. The sanctuary was situated in the Carpartes, that look (in my opinion) similar to the Alpes. We then continued our journey to the Bran Castle, Dracula’s home. Here, we went down a so-called “time tunnel” and bought some souvenirs. Back in Bucharest, we were picked up by our guest parents and individually ate dinner with them.
Day 4: Even though we didn’t have to leave bed today as early as we did yesterday, I slept through my alarm and had to get ready within 10 minutes. Still, me and my guest- sister got to school in time, which wouldn’t have been necessary as many others were late. When everybody was finally there, we started our walk to an international museum of art. Having arrived at the desired place, we had some time to look around the museum. The poems were recited in the very same museum, however in different rooms. First were the English lyrics in one room, then came the Spanish ones in another. At noon, we went to the Hotel Capitol once more but decided that we wanted to try something new, so we ate lunch in a small bar in the old town – after all, this is next to our last day here. At 3 p.m. our day continued with the performances of the students at the school. We were amazed at how talented even the little ones were. Our performance came last and apparently it wasn’t quite as bad as imagined, as the music teacher praised us afterwards. Every participant of the Erasmus Project then got a document for our stay in Romania, which we for some reason didn’t expect. Finally, there was a buffet at the school with lots of authentic Romanian food and some music, to which the teachers from Italy first started dancing and eventually, everyone did.

Day 5: On Friday, we could visit the Romanian parliament, which is surely more impressive than it’s German counterpart. In addition to the lobby, there was a concert hall and a huge ceremonial hall. After the visit, many of the others ate out for lunch with their guest- families, whereas I went to an escape room with mine. Then came the saddest part of our stay, as we had to say goodbye to our new friends before returning to Germany.
